Summer school for Master MS² : a week focused on ‘Multiscale approaches to architectural and microstructural materials and metamaterials’.

The summer school of Master Mechanics of Sustainable Materials and Structures (MS²) was held at Centrale Nantes from October 13 to 18, 2025 on the theme of “Multiscale approaches to architectural and microstructural materials and metamaterials”.

Led by Prof. Angela Madeo and Prof. Jean-François Ganghoffer, the event brought together PhD students and post-docs in mechanical and civil engineering, applied mathematics, physics and materials science.

Through a dynamic mix of lectures, workshops, and hands-on sessions, participants were exploring topics including multiscale modelling, homogenization methods, microstructure-based design, and 3D printing. The programme was offering valuable insights into the mechanics of heterogeneous media and the design of metamaterials with tailored mechanical properties.

The summer school was coordinated by :

  • Angela Madeo, TU Dortmund, Germany
  • Jean-François Ganghoffer, University of Lorraine, Nancy, France

With support from :

  • Franco-German University Deutsch-Französische Hochschule
  • European Commission H2020
  • Giulio Sciarra, GeM, Centrale Nantes (Local scientific and logistical support)
