A collaborative approach
GeM is committed to open, interdisciplinary and collaborative research. This ambition is reflected in our strong involvement in national and international scientific networks and communities that structure major scientific themes and facilitate synergies between laboratories, institutions and industry.
NETWORKS
Carnot MERS Institute
The Carnot MERS institute supports companies and industries in their innovations, to make maritime economic activities ever more sustainable, by collaborating with research laboratories with exceptional skills, technical resources and test sites.
The Carnot MERS Institute is headed by Ifremer and École Centrale de Nantes, and includes CNRS, Nantes University, Université de Bretagne Occidentale (UBO) and Université de Bretagne Sud (UBS). It brings together 9 internationally-recognized units and laboratories on all of France’s coastlines.

IUML
The Institut Universitaire Mer et Littoral (IUML) is a research federation currently composed of 850 researchers in some twenty laboratories and departments. The IUML’s scientific project focuses on 4 main areas: Bioprocesses and Marine Bioresources; Offshore Structures, Ships of the Future, Marine Renewable Energies; Biodiversity, Health and the Coastal Environment; Blue Growth, Governance of the Maritime Space.
