Nicolas Moës elected to the French Academy of Sciences

Nicolas Moës, Professor at Centrale Nantes and member of GeM, has just been elected to the French Academy of Sciences.
This distinction recognises his outstanding contributions to scientific research in computational mechanics, as well as his more fundamental work on the damage-to-fracture transition.

Winner of a CNRS silver medal in 2014, an ERC grant in 2017 and the 2019 ONERA Prize in mechanical sciences for aeronautics and aerospace, Professor Nicolas MOËS has also been a senior member of the Institut Universitaire de France since 1 October 2018.

His research areas include damage, fracture, contact, the extended finite element method (X-FEM), the Thick Level Set (TLS) delocalisation model and the Inequality Level Set for contact (ILS). He teaches computational mechanics, the extended finite element method (X-FEM) and configurational mechanics.
